сокр ILGWU; истПрофсоюз производителей женской и детской одежды. Основан в 1900. Забастовки, организованные профсоюзом в г. Нью-Йорке в 1909-10, привели к заключению т.н. "Протокола о мире" [Protocol of Peace], в котором были заложены основы сотрудничества профсоюзов с руководством компаний. В 30-е гг. наблюдался быстрый рост профсоюза. Его активное участие в разработке планов социального обеспечения связано с руководством Д. Дубинского [ Dubinsky, David] (1932-66). В середине 90-х гг. XX в. насчитывал около 150 тыс. членов. Входил в АФТ-КПП [ AFL-CIO]. В 1995 слился с Объединенным профсоюзом рабочих швейной и текстильной промышленности [ Amalgamated Clothing and Textile Workers Union], образовав Профсоюз работников швейных и текстильных отраслей промышленности [Union of Needletrades, Industrial and Textile Employees (UNITE)].English-Russian dictionary of regional studies > International Ladies' Garment Workers' Union

Был президентом Межнационального профсоюза дамских портных [ International Ladies' Garment Workers' Union] с 1932 по 1966. Решительно не допускал в профсоюз коммунистов, а также представителей преступного мира, выступал за предоставление членам профсоюза больших льгот. Входил в руководство АФТ [ AFL] и АФТ-КПП [ AFL-CIO]. Как вице-президент АФТ представлял ее в Международной организации труда и в Экономическом и социальном совете ООН.
